While Bentley is an award winning restaurant, nothing stops you from stopping in just to experience their extraordinary wine bar. With a makeover from Melbourne architect Pascale Gomes-McNabb, the space has been transformed in recent years from the seedy pub of the '90s to a chic, understated dining and drinking space. Separated from the restaurant by black mesh, the bar makes one of the finest settings to immerse yourself in the wonderful world of wine on offer.
The Bentley has one of the most comprehensive wine lists in Australia, with over 600 local and overseas bottles on their ever-evolving wine list, curated by award-winning sommelier and Bentley co-owner Nick Hildebrandt. The list contains wines which are incredibly rare or in limited production, and they even work with small producers to create their own exclusive wines like Adelaide Hills' producer Lucy Margaux's 'Bentley Barrel' pinot noir. As you'd expect, it's topped the Good Food Guide's best wine list more than once. Given the endless range of wine to select from you're well advised to ask the staff for a recommendation on what might be the tastiest thing to sip on. And while this is the home of Sydney's wine connoisseurs, it's well worth sampling a couple of items from the bar menu, particularly the cheese plate, which comes with three selections.
