The 'birthday suit' in common parlance refers to the attire we're (not) wearing the moment we're popped out into this exciting jungle of a world. The irony is that we spend a life clothing ourselves in all manner of things in an attempt to hide our natural state.
Imagining a new kind of 'clothed nude', The Birthday Suit — a relatively young clothing label by artists Techa Noble and Emma Price of The Kingpins fame — imagines and realises a raucously loud world where babies are born not just kicking and screaming, but adorned in embellished bird headdresses and Tasmanian Tiger sequin capes (apparently limelight-hungry rapper Kanye West bought one at The Birthday Suit's Parisian stockist). This month, head to the Australian Centre for Photography in Paddington to see what all the fuss is about and get a new perspective on what you might consider to be your birthday suit.
