To be sure, Tim and Jean wear their influences of their sleeve(s) but what they lack in originality they make up for in excellent Fleetwood Mac covers and good lookin' man-child charisma. Their story is not much different to any other young band aping the sounds-of-now-and-Brooklyn. This one time, Tim ran into Jean at a train station. They'd seen each other before at gigs around Perth, but for some reason that day felt like a good day to form a band, and later that night they wrote their first song. Now, mere months later they’re fielding calls from labels all around the world.
Cynicism aside, Tim and Jean are a hot ticket for summer with spots at Falls, Fat As Butter and Good Vibrations all on the horizon. And why wouldn’t they be? Their synth-pop-for-sunshine sound channels Passion Pit via Vampire Weekend, and neither band member has made it out of their teens yet. If ever there was a recipe for short-term success, this is it.
But the best part of all of this is that as a punter, you need not concern yourself with the career trajectory of Triple J's Next Big Thing. All you have to do is turn up at the OAF on a Friday night and get a little sweaty pulling some chunky, chunky moves to some chunky, chunky riffs. All. Right.
