JuJu is the kind of place where you go for the 'experience'. That is to say, fine dining this ain’t - but that’s the point. Instead, be prepared to have your senses accosted: glasses clinking at the bar, enthusiastic to the point of manic waiters, and aging pop songs in the background.

Tucked away underneath the rather bland building where the Kings Cross Coca Cola sign perches, you’d hardly know what you where in for. Amble down the stairs and it’s off with the shoes - you’ll politely be handed a plastic shopping bag to dump them in, then ushered to any number of booths. The lacquered wooden pens house low tables and cushions to sit on.

Huge laminated menus feature an enormous amount of options, featuring all of the Japanese standards: sushi, sashimi, soft shell crab salad, agedashi tofu and more. It’s best to grab a bit of everything with a cluster of drinks - beer or some of the strange cocktail concoctions on offer - and settle in for a boisterous feast.

It’s a noisy joint, which adds to the flavour. Usually you’ll find a 21st or hens night taking place somewhere in the room, screeching patrons liquored up and ready to go. And it’s just as well, JuJu thoughtfully includes a karaoke area, ready for some off-key belting and spilt drinks.

JuJu is the perfect place to roll into with a crew, grab at some food from across the table, sing your guts out, and leave full and satisfied, knowing you’ve had a great (if not crazy) time.
