So you've spent summer in Sydney? Have you visited the Poolside Cafe at Boy Charlton? No? I'm sorry, all your beach parties and frolicking in the ocean counts for nothing if you haven't visited this place.

Your plan for the day is simple. Head past AGNSW, without stopping. (Yes, I know about the Picasso exhibition. Another day.) It might be an idea to take your bicycle with you, as a brief diversion to Mrs. Macquarie's Chair is allowable - only in the interest of working up an appetite, of course. Then on to your destination, the Andrew 'Boy' Charlton pool. If you haven't acquired an appetite on the bike ride, you may do so here. If already hungry, head straight for the cafe which overlooks the pool. I hope you've been clever enough to come on a weekday, because this place sure does get busy on weekends. That said, it's well worth waiting your turn if there's the need to do so.

Sit down at your table, remembering to borrow a hat and slap on some of the sunscreen on offer if you're outside. This is the spot with the best view, over not only the pool but across Woolloomooloo Bay. Next, order up a storm. I'd suggest a Frappe to start. The Limonata with mint has my vote, though the Passionfruit, Mango and Orange option also comes highly recommended. From the breakfast menu, Baked Green Eggs ($18) with prosciutto, Parmesan and herb toast are a highlight - though they do require about a quarter of an hour cooking time. If this is too much to ask, try the Breakfast Bruschetta ($16), with haloumi, black sausage, roasted tomato and basil. There's also a vege option ($15) with mushrooms, feta and rocket. If you're arriving later, lunch is available, with Crispy Zucchini Flowers ($16), Fish Tacos ($16.50) and a Poached Ocean Trout Salad ($21.50) all good choices.

To be fair, it's hard to miss with this food. Super fresh, almost as affordable as a visit to the pool downstairs and served up surprisingly fast. Add a warm, clear day and an incredible view, and it doesn't take much to realise why this is such a popular summer haunt.
