Take a step into The Fish Shop and you’ll be transported to a simpler time where fresh food and a lively sense of community were the hallmarks of a great night.
The Fish Shop stands out amongst its dimly lit counterparts with its rustic, not-so-perfect floorboards, vintage fishing paraphernalia hung on the whitewashed walls and waiters clad in blue and white striped t-shirts and bandanas. There are no bookings, long wooden tables for intimate community seating and a menu written on chalkboards throughout the restaurant. Oh, and there’s takeaway for the locals. The Fish Shop is part of the new guard of relaxed community dining sweeping Sydney.
In the space that once played host to Potts Point institution Lotus, Head Chef Jeremy Strode of Bistrode CBD fame is peeling the menu right back, focusing on quality seafood produce accompanied by unique cocktail options. Daily changing menu options include Sydney Rock oysters ($2.70 each) for a shared entrée, crumbed fish burger on a soft bun with (just greasy enough) bacon and chilli, Petuna smoked salmon sandwich ($9.70) for those who want something light and tasty and for the meat-eaters, Dan Hong’s famous melt in your mouth Cheeseburger ($17).
